Tips on choosing colors

The use of colors can be very important as a key element of retaining visitors- both new and repeat. Studies show that if someone feels comfortable they will be more at ease and feel welcomed. The importance of this to your blog or site is that the more welcomed your visitor is, the more likely they will be to stay longer and come back again.

Harsh colors can make a person not want to stay and thus, move on quickly after landing on your page.

Here are some tips to keep in mind when choosing and using colors.

  • Colors found in nature are generally more pleasing than colors that are created. This would include sky blue, grass green etc.
  • Colors not found in nature, such as reds, can cause eye fatigue.
  • Remember to have a good contrast between the background of your page and the test. This will make readability easier. Don't use opposites (from the color wheel) such as green against red.
