Favicon (short for Favorites Icon) are a special logo or other image that become associated with a web page. In most browsers, the favicon is usually displayed next to the web site address. Icons can also be used as shortcut icons are used on the computer desktop to distinguish computer files.
You can add an icon to your link so that when a user clicks on your picture, they are taken to a web address. This is a great idea for a link bar on your site or to your rss feed.
Where you want the picture to be placed, simply add the code- the first part is the destination of the link and the second part is the location of the image. You will need to upload the image to a web address to do this.

Another use for an icon is the favicon. You would need to upload this image to a server, get the web address and link to it in the head section of your web page.
